Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT Therapy)

What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT therapy) is an effective evidence-based approach which emphasises that emotional and physical problems are mostly determined by thoughts, beliefs and behaviour and that these problems often come from the unhealthy beliefs we hold and the rigid demands we place on ourselves, other people and the world.

The number of sessions I recommend can be discussed at your initial appointment, but usually range from 6-12, however some issues require longer term treatment. Sessions are an hour long and are usually given weekly.

I help my patients change their unhealthy beliefs into more rational, realistic and helpful ones. This not only helps you with the problem you’ve come with, but it often allows you to see positive changes in many other areas of your life as well.

CBT can be used for a long list of conditions which include anxiety, depression, anger, guilt, envy, jealousy, shame, relationship difficulties, as well as addictive problems such as weight loss, drug and alcohol abuse, and smoking cessation.

I often use a combination of CBT and Hypnotherapy, as the Hypnotherapy can help reinforce the knowledge and understanding obtained in that session in a relaxed way.
